It's A Blog Jim! (But not as we know it...)

Hi! I’m Becky – the owner of Tiger Lily Crafts.

TLC started almost by accident in March 2020 when I decided to de-stash some of my sewing bits and bobs on Facebook. I was sad to see so much price gouging on face mask essentials like elastic and this inspired me to use my wholesale contacts and provide more reasonable prices. A pet peeve of mine has always been shopping online and adding bits to my cart only to find that the shipping was extortionate.

So I decided to combine these two factors (low pricing and free shipping) to start my own business and run it according to my own values. It took off far quicker than I could ever have imagined and within months I had my own website and a loyal bunch of customers who I genuinely cannot thank enough for making this such a success.

I first got into sewing in my late teens. As a child my Mother and Aunty made me some fantastic dressing up clothes – being crafty definitely runs in my family. From amazing costumes (Pocahontas was my favourite!) to personalised funky jeans I was definitely spoiled. When my Granny passed away my parents bought me a sewing machine rather than just giving me money as my inheritance. I was quickly hooked and eventually had the pleasure of making my Mum’s outfits for two of my brothers’ weddings.

It was during an episode of depression that I started to knit. For years my Mum had teased me saying “You can’t knit!” so I became determined to prove her wrong. My Granny had taught me basic knitting (in the bunny hole, round the tree, out the bunny hole, off pops ye) when I was a child. Using YouTube videos I learned more and from there experimented with different projects. Perhaps the most notable project is a jumper (I wish I’d never started!) for my partner James which has been 3 years in the making and counting. I made the mistake of letting him have free reign picking a pattern and yarn so I’ve been knitting a few rows here and there on 2.75mm needles for a 6’ 3” giant with my eyes going square. Maybe 2020 will be the year it finally gets finished (fingers crossed)!

Going forward I have lots of ideas and plans. Tiger Lily Crafts will always offer free shipping and the best prices. The products I choose will only ever be of the best quality and ones which I personally stand behind. My goal is to encourage crafting as a way to promote good mental health and to step away from fast fashion and provide products and tips to create a sustainable wardrobe.

Keep an eye out for my next blog introducing my partner in crime and business James and (obviously the most important part of TLC!) our pets Pip and Miep!

    Hi Becky
When I was looking for wool to knit socks and came across your wonderful site I had no idea it was a new venture or run on such a personal level. The website is so professional I assumed it was a big company and when I had a query was sure my email would be in vain! However despite writing on a Sunday I got an immediate reply and my order sorted then dispatched the next day.
Thank you so much and I’m sure I will be a regular customer
    Bye for now
    Pat

Hi Becky, I loved your new pic, and your a natural at becoming a friend to all your customers. I’ve never met such an honest, concerned , and genuine provider of crafty goods, it’s more like going next door and asking if you have something we need. It’s a great family business, and even if I don’t need to buy much these days, it’s nice to know you are there. Best of luck for 2021, love Wendy.xx
