April 2021 Sewing Box: Jeans

Posted by Becky McLean on

April's sewing boxes have arrived! This month it's all about the jeans. If you're building your own sustainable wardrobe jeans are an absolute staple. We love the Cashmerette Ames and Thread Theory Jedidiah patterns because they come with some fantastic online resources to guide you through getting the perfect fit and some of the trickier parts of construction.

Start here when you're measuring up for the Jedediah trousers. It's comprehensive guide to measuring men to go alongside all the Thread Theory patterns. There's a blog about lengthening and shortening their pattern pieces here (James being 6'3 especially likes this guide!) You can then use this tutorial to grade between sizes and make your jeans fit just right.

Cashmerette have their own guide to measuring up (tap here to find it) which works a charm alongside their fitting and grading tutorial for the Ames jeans. The pattern includes pieces for skinny or straight legs. They even have a guide to customising your jeans for a true personal touch!

If you need a helping hand with some of the more technical bits there are even more resources from Thread Theory and Cashmerette:

  • Change the Jedediah pattern up a bit with some welted pockets using this how-to guide.
  • Thread Theory's Sew-Along Tutorial for Jedediah pants gives a step-by-step rundown of the instructions including how to create your own binding for a professional finish to inside seams.
  • Stuck on sewing the fly front? Cashmerette unpicks the tricky techniques in this fantastic blog post.

Every sewing pattern we stock at Tiger Lily Crafts comes with plenty of helpful resources from the creators to help you create stunning garments that fit beautifully. Whatever your shape, size or skill level you'll find patterns you can use over and over to build a fabulous unique wardrobe!
