What Jane Says
"I love botanical drawings and recently purchased a fabulous book from Kew Gardens with the most wonderful illustrations. There is a page within the book that features Sunflowers, Hellebores and Opium Poppy seed heads and it made me think of the fields of sunflowers we walked through on a lovely French holiday a few years ago.
I have always loved sunflowers, with all their connotations to heat and sunshine and I know that Vincent Van Gogh, whose series of sunflower still life studies are infamous, saw these stunning flowers as a symbol of friendship and gratitude, so using them as the inspiration for a new design was inevitable, and, as wild poppies are common place in fields of sunflowers, it was logical that this design should feature them too!"

Welcome to the world of Janie Crow!
My Great Grandmother, Alice, simply had a love of yarn. As a child I remember watching her arrange crochet granny squares on her lap and making decisions about which colour combinations went together. Her speedy hook and agile fingers fascinated me, but it wasn't until much later on in my life's journey that I also found myself enthralled by, and addicted to, the art of crochet. I guess I finally got to grips with the technicalities of crochet around 15 years ago and over the last decade I have felt confident enough to design projects aimed at the home crafter.
I would love to see crochet recognised as a platform for creativity and so I have made it my mission to seek out pathways that will enable me to reach a wide audience to whom I can demonstrate the versatility and integrity of the craft. I try to highlight the differences between 'home made' and 'hand made' and challenge the often derogatory and ageist image of those (mostly women) who choose to design and craft with yarn. I hope that by doing so I am validating the skills of so many others.
